Supported and funded by the Dutch SBIR Innovation Programme of Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland (RVO), the Panno School and 3Cycle team are developing PANNO prototype, an open-source building system for public facilities in Ukraine. The case study responds to a clear and urgent need: high-quality, sustainable public buildings that can be realised efficiently and at scale.

The prototype aims to validate the modular system and test the energy performance according to passive house principles. In addition, circular and biobased materials are applied. Within this setup, the project explores the possibilities for local production and collaboration with regional partners.

Architecturally and technically, the system combines a generic modular structure with the flexibility for site-specific expression. It enables efficiency and scalability, while allowing each building to respond to local climate conditions, craftsmanship, building traditions and urban context, resulting in architecture that is both distinct and rooted in place.

Following completion of the concept design phase, the team is preparing the next step: further development with a construction partner, identification of a pilot location, and scaling the system to public buildings — including Panno School kindergartens and schools.
