Haddingestee: A tender design for the heart of Groningen
With Explorius, Nijhuis, Studio Blad, architecture historian Joseph Gardella and Dantuma Wegkamp, we developed a tender design for the reconstruction of the Haddingestraat site in the heart of Groningen.
On the site of the former parking garage, the plan creates a sustainable new neighbourhood that draws on the city’s unique position on the Hondsrug and the historicthe structure of alleys, courtyards and guesthouses. Haddingestee is conceived as a permeable city block with a network of green courtyards, alleys and small squares that invite exploration. At its heart lies a lively square with a large tree, surrounded by a diverse mix of homes. Shared gardens, collective spaces and an underground public Bicycle Hub promote meeting and sustainable mobility. The new neighbourhood is a place where residents, visitors and passersby meet, where the city breathes and renews itself, a new place to live in Groningen: Haddingestee.
The design was presented during Let’s Gro Festival. The public can share their thoughts and vote until 26 November. Help make Haddingestee a reality, cast your vote here.
